Hello again, our few but beloved readers! We have finally lost the extra pounds gained from our last literary feast and we are ready to kick off a new one.
This time around, Monica and I have decided to enjoy Wake by Lisa McMann. Chances are good you've seen this book around your local library or bookstore. It was just named in YALSA's 2009 top ten books for teens.
The feast and conversation will commence on Monday evening and we'll be discussing the first fifty pages.
This should give you just the right amount of time to trick a friend or loved one into letting you borrow (Steal, Shel, let them steal!) their copy of Wake.
What's that? You want to know what Wake is about before committing to a literary feast with us? No fear, the description from the back of the book is below....
"Not all dreams are sweet.
For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie's seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.
She can't tell anybody about what she does--they'd never believe her, or worse, they'd think she's a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control.
Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant...."
So, hunt down a copy today and prepare yourself for an enjoyable meal. Monica and I are excellent literary feast friends. I promise you. We say please and thank you, hardly ever put our elbows on the table, almost never chew with our mouths open and only interrupt someone when our passion for the literature cannot possibly be held at bay any longer. So please, share in reading Wake and join in the conversation at our virtual table. We're looking forward to it.
