It's been awhile
since we've had a literary feast and it would seem we've grown famished over these past several weeks. So, we thought we'd take a big bite of Cherie Priest's young adult steampunk novel, Boneshaker
.
Here's the official description from the back of the book:"In the early days of the Civil War, rumors of gold in the frozen Klondike brought hordes of newcomers to the Pacific Northwest. Anxious to compete, Russian prospectors commissioned inventor Leviticus Blue to create a great machine that could mine through Alaska's ice. But on it's first test run the Boneshaker went terribly awry, destroying several blocks of downtown Seattle and unearthing a subterranean vein of blight gas that turned anyone who breathed it into the living dead.

Sounds intriguing. I do love tales of air pirates and ravenous undead. Even better if they're in the same book.
I personally am a huge fan of people who give long names to machines, explaining exactly what they do. "Dr. Blue's Incredible Bone-Shaking Drill Engine"? Loves it. Wants one of my own. I'll keep it in the kitchen, next to my "Really Awesome Whirring Coffee Making Electric Thing."
